The Mercury heating and cooling working group is open
September 29, 2026
Heating and cooling have been a coordinated load for decades; hot water cylinders were timed around the network long before anyone called it flexibility.
But scale and direction have changed. Throughout Europe, the electrification of heat is a key topic, cooling demand is growing, and the devices doing that work are increasingly connected. The standards landscape has grown up alongside them, but it doesn't yet describe what a heating or cooling device should actually do for the grid.
Our Heating and Cooling Working Group exists to close that gap, and it's now open.
We marked the launch with two live sessions in September, one for Europe and the Americas, and one for Asia Pacific, so people could join at a sensible hour wherever they're based. Turnout was strong, with several major industry players represented, an encouraging early signal that this is landing with the right audience.
The next open session is being planned for before Christmas. If you’d like to get involved, register your interest via events@mercuryconsortium.com.
